ATIS API Overview

API – Application Programming Interface is a communication protocol that allows websites, apps, and other digital platforms to speak to one another. There are many different kinds of APIs, and Travel Alberta utilizes a REST (Representational State Transfer), the same type used by Google and Twitter. Essentially an API allows you to make a call from a client to a server that returns data back over an HTTP protocol. The ATIS API can pull content from ATIS onto any website, app, or digital application.

How does the ATIS API Work?

ATIS’ comprehensive database contains over 7,000 listings and 1,500 events at any time. This content can be queried and pulled by specific ATIS data fields.

These fields include:

  • Content Type (Listing, Event, Offer, Article)
  • Content ID (Single and Multiple) • Category • Category Type
  • Activities
  • Amenities
  • City
  • Offer Price (original price, sale price, sale percent, price ranges)
  • Offer and Event Date Range
  • Listing TripAdvisor Rating Range (Only if the Distribution Partner has their own TripAdvisor license) The consumer API also supports radial search and Polygon searches including:
  • Radial Searches: Radial searches from an area defined by Latitude/Longitude point.
  • Polygon searches: An area defined by up to 10 Lat/Long points

API-connected Websites

Regional and municipal DMOs (Destination Marketing Organizations)

The ATIS API supplies its content to multiple 3rd party websites. The content provided to each site is specific to the API parameters set by those sites' developers.
