There are a few scenarios where you may encounter duplicate content in ATIS.
If an agent identifies a piece of content as a duplicate of another content item in ATIS, they will need to take the necessary steps to remove the duplicate content.
Part of the process before approving content is to check if the content is already listed in ATIS.
If you encounter duplicate content, follow the directions below for how to manage the content.
Things to check for before actioning duplicate content:
Are the Categories and Types the same, or different?
Because you can only choose one category and type for a piece of content, there is a rare exception that we will allow duplicate content so that the product is properly represented on travelalberta.com.
Is the Listing or Event actually different?
Sometimes a partner will use the same or a similar title for a piece of content but they are actually referring to a different experience. Look on the partner’s website. If the content is named exactly the same, update the title to better reflect the content name.
If you determine that the content is a duplicate - follow these procedure:
Actions
Content that is submitted as a new content item (new content does not have a published version)
Listings
Determine which listing you should keep. Consider the following:
The preference is to keep the older version, assuming the new one has not yet been published.
Updated content in the new version can be used to update the older version.
If there are two published versions, the preference is still to keep the older version, assuming the newer one does not have a significantly larger analytics footprint. (e.g. seen my considerably more qualified travellers)
Is the original listing translated? If yes, is the description good (follows best practices). Determine which is better. If the new description is much better, do we consider re-translating?
Does the original listings have substantial qualified travellers. If yes, you will want to keep the original.
Does the original have good photos?
Regardless, you will want to take the best elements of each listing and combine them into one listing.
Look at the user list, is there an active user already listed on the listing? If yes, reach out to the partner to see if this user is still active.
If appropriate give the new Partner access to the original piece of content (if no data provider exists; if a data provider exists, follow the data provider procedure.)
Follow up with Outbound Calling procedure.
Events
Since there can only be one user attached to an Event record, and an event cannot be transferred from one user to another, Duplicate events should not be accepted.
If the original event is expired, keep the new version unless the original content was managed by a data provider, or is a signature event (has been sent for translation) in which case, escalate to Travel Alberta.
